Experience Checks

Characters do not get checks for successfully using their skills during an adventure, like it says in the rules. Instead the characters get checks when they critical a skill or by referee assignment.

I assign checks at beginning of the next weeks adventure for the adventure completed the week before. Usually the award for mid-level characters is eight to ten checks. For high level characters, like in my last campaign, the award was ten, twelve, or fifteen. Of these checks I only want to see the power check rolled (and it is only available to those with an offensive spell or for those who were in spirit combat.)

Another source of checks is writing summaries. Three checks are awarded for writing a summary of at least a page in length. If the summary is the best one, chosen for distribution to the players with that weeks game announcement email, the award is five checks instead. Last campaign, I allowed one of these to be used for a power check, but this campaign that is not an option this time.
