Red Moon Over Sartar Campaign

Summaries for February 4, 1996

Things started with an invite to a celebration by the local chief in Swan. It seems that some Stormbull types/lama riders had stopped by and the chief decided to bundle the local Lunars into the festivities. Hasmod (Joe's character) took this opportunity to start issue threats of beatings if people didn't do things like show up at he festivities or wear the proper uniform. About this time, one character (I forget who) tried to win favor of the local chief by sounding him out about what other tribes he didn't get along with. This someone ended up being interpreted as an off to wack the tribes enemies with a price of 5,000 sp's being quoted.

The festivities went OK. Severus (Ken's Character), who is chaos tainted, decided to leave when the Stormbulls appeared to be eyeing him. Hasmod tried to make a speech. It didn't go that well but he just confused people instead of pissing them off. The new guy also made a speech, didn't do well at all, and mostly just confused people except he pissed off some lama riders (who stopped him for a "chat" the next day, but he was able to apologize his way out of the incident.) During the banquet, one got the impression that the Stormbulls meant to cause trouble for Lunars someplace. Yasna went back and attended a staff meeting where she offered to pay to upgrade the enlisted man's latrine (the officers had been done but there little action on the other one) and reported about the storm bulls (the leader at Runegate indicated he would fly on his Griffon and look for them). She also made the suggestion that lead to 4 women being moved into the fort to improve the moral of the 200 or so men there.

About this time our currently glorious leader (Hasmod) decided to institute policy of patrolling 3 days on and 3 days off. It had been hinted by the chief that this would be good time for the lunars to be out of town so Hasmod decided to go on patrol but leave Tavar and Rockfrug nearby to watch who came and left the town (unfortunately, they were unable to acquire a good spot to safely watch from). After the patrol, the group got news about some lunars being attacked down in Lismelder territory. We went down to lend a hand. When we got there we found a Lunar captain and about 50 soldiers and some locals that weren't that happy. Examination of the site found lama spoor. We had to leave because a large group of Rebel Sartarites tried to surround us and (presumably) kill us.

We reported the rebel activity to the Captain who took his men the nearby village (which "for some reason" was empty of warriors.) He proceeded to burn the town. When the Sartar rebels showed up to do something about it, he used the Lunar's superior training and tactics to win a resounding victory (I think Sartar casualties were in the 25% range). Afterwards our party took the opportunity to question some of the rebels and established that they were mad that some Lunar's had allegedly killed some Sartarites. At the site we found some more lama spoor, which lead to the speculation that all the trouble was caused by the Stormbulls causing trouble.

When we got back, some of the locals at Swan had heard that we had participated in the attack on the Lismelder village. Hasmod said that it was absolutely not true and decided to go on patrol while some VIPS from said village were in town for a feast. The new guy questioned the wisdom of this course of action and turned the patrol around with the idea of going to back and publicly announcing the truth during the feast. However, he wasn't able to gain admittance. The new guy went up latter to tell the chief who didn't appear to be surprised. He had occasion to see the chief give a large sum of money to the Lismelderites and the chief remarked that relations were just fine. This led to some speculation about what scam was being run.

After this, we went off to investigate the killing of some locals by a Troll. Looking over the site, Yasna and Tavar spotted a building down in a hollow. Yasna decided that she would go and investigate while Tavar went to report her death. While Tavar was gone she shot and arrow with a magic light on it into the side of the building and saw a figure put it out. Yasna was able to identify the building as dating back to the late Empire of Wyrm's friends. When the rest of the party assembled Tavar did a detect enemies and it two were detected in the direction of the building. It was decided to fire another light and plug whatever came out with missiles, but nothing happened. During this period, the new guy encountered and killed a Trollkin.

Then Rockfrug and Tavar started circling around so that Tavar could use detect enemies from the other side to determine if they were in the building or past it. About 1/2 way around, they noticed a dense clump of trees off to the side. Fearing being surrounded, Tavar did a detect enemies and detected two in the tree, two in the direction of the building, and one in some trees off under a cliff. They then rejoined the party.

While we were discussing what to do, the rest of the party saw two trolls getting ready to roll rocks down on Tavar and Rockfrug. The warning allowed Tavar to dodge but Rockfrug was hit and had to be healed. The party shot missiles at the Tolls and moved down the road. At this point it was decided that we had to go up a crevice and get up on the hill that the Trolls were on. Rockfrug volunteered to go first and Tavar was ordered to go second. Severus went off to the building by himself. A rock was rolled down the crevice while the party was climbing up, but everyone dodged. Rockfrug and Tavar got up and Rockfrug killed a Troll while the other one smashed Tavar's arm into a pulp. Rockfrug finished off the second Troll and Yasna used heal wound to restore Tavar's arm. During this time, Severus killed two Trollkin in the building.

We went down the building and found Severus just standing there. Attempts to get his attention failed. Yasna tried to go upstairs but went oblivious halfway up. Tavar tried closing his eyes and going in and dragging Severus out, but the same thing happened to him. Ahmed got Roneer to try and lasso people and use his sable to drag them out. He get Tavar around the head and dragged him out anyway (doing significant damage). He got Severus's character and dragged him out. The characters were able to be revived by slapping them. Tavar then tried to dispel magic on Yasna and she came to her wits. But by the time we convinced her to leave and she headed to the door, she was only able to make the bottom of the stairs. We then used the lasso to drag her and her fur hat out (separately).
