Eastern Mountains Politics

Algheri City Administration: Traditionally the Council of Elders made all the important decisions for the city and was led by the hereditary Imperial Governor of Algheri. After the conquest by the Potola Mountain Kingdom, Bishop Tachi Pachen has led the Potola Kingdom City Government. The 500 strong city government is being slowly replaced.

Fogliano Family of Algheri: One of the most powerful noble families in Algheri before and after the conquest, the Fogliano have significant trade interests in salt and on the trade route combined with major land holdings in the vale north of Algheri.

Hanari People: Ancient group of fishermen around Lake Maggiore, they survived numerous invasions and hostile actions by retreating to islands and living in several small houseboat lake communities. Boatmasters form the leadership of the Hanari. Boatmasters traditionally made sure on shore communities successfully fled on boats to islands in the lake. They still perform this function, but have now evolved to hereditary political leaders of groups of about 100 people each. Yearly a gathering of the people occurs on the sacred island of the Maggiore lake spirit. About half the people attend to pick a ceremonial leader (High Boatmaster) of the people from among the Boatmasters. The Hanari people speak the Hanari language.

Ghelti Tribe: The union of the Gheli and the Gelt people after an earthquake in ages past (about 200 years before). The Ghelti mainly survive by acting as traders (as porters) of goods over the Tretros Mountains to the horse nomads to the north. The Ghelti are not a majority in any of the areas in Tretros or the Eastern Mountains, but are important members of the Bhutanese communities in which the Ghelti live. Any member of the Ghelti showing magical potential or prowess has the support of their people to join the Masters of the Mountains, a secret sect of very powerful Ghelti tasked with holding back the demons of the mountains from completely destroying the Ghelti people. The Ghelti have no real leader, except the indirect influence by the secret leader of the Masters of the Mountains and the power of the various Ghelti merchant magnates. The Ghelti speak one (and rarely both) of the related Ghelti languages: Gheli and Gelti.

Great Temple of the Moon in Algheri: The main temple in Algheri is of the moon pantheon, with shrines to all the main gods of the Moon, Water, and Air pantheons.

Kelemmi: The Kelemmi people are spread all over the Eastern Mountains and a few are still left (but mostly assimilated in the Gerricans) in Lessere. During the arrival of the empire, the Kelemmi people resisted and their military forces were destroyed. The Kelemmi scattered and eventually reformed some communities of the remnants of their people. The hunter-gatherer communities cannot sustain themselves with only hunting and are supplemented by significant income as mercenaries, caravan guards, bodyguards of rich merchants, etc. Somehow the Kelemmi remain as a people with an identity despite their oppression and dissolution. Each small community of Kelemmi has a local chieftain, but the Kelemmi have no main leader. All Kelemmi speak at least one language other than Kelemmi and most speak Kelemmi too. Kelemmi is closely related to Gerrican now.

Legion XXXI (The Bear): Bear Legion due to standard bearers and some others wearing bearskins on helmet (and neck)

Magiorre Patrol: Naval and marine force on Lake Magiorre.

Morelli Family of Algheri:

Praetorian Guard: Force disbanded by the Potola conquerors, but formerly the premier military force in the city.

Potola Kingdom City Government: Led by Bishop Tachi Pachen, about three dozen administrators from Potola city have taken over the basic governance of Algheri and caused the demotion or removal of most of the high offices of Algheri. Dorji Pachen, brother of Tachi Pachen the Bishop, is the military leader of the Potola Kingdom forces in Algheri.

Secret Order of the Empire: Political and military organization composed of some of the most powerful and important Imperial citizens in the Eastern Mountains. Membership is very exclusive and limited to 100 members. Originally formed during the colonial period of the Empire to combat local rebellious forces and bandits on the Northern Trade Route. The Secret Order now preserves the traditions of the Empire and the strength of the Algheri military forces. The Secret Order has yet to declare opposition to the Potola conquest, but everyone feels it is only a matter of time.

Semper Tribe (Gerrican): (see Yuli and Semper) The Semper people were once numerous and lived well on Lac Vond, but after repeated defeats by other tribes, they fled into Fairie around 900 years ago. Upon their return from Faire, they migrate to . The Spini merchant familiy of Majorca City are descended from the Semper.

Temple of the Void: The temple of the Void for the Eastern Mountains has shrines to the entire pantheon except that there is no shrine to Katar and the priests of Kalima are limited.

Yuli and Semper: Both the Yuli and Semper people are racially Gerrican, but they became literate by and were heavily influenced by contact with the ancient Etruvi people, splitting with Gerrican mainstream culture a thousand years ago. Long ago both peoples were pushed from their lands on Lac Yond to the highland lakes. As the Tlan expanded and grew, both Yuli and Semper were pushed even further away. Finally the Yuli battled the Semper a millenia ago and pushed the remnants of the Semper intoan even more remote area.

Yuli Tribe (Gerrican): (see Yuli and Semper) Yuli tribemen are used as proxies by King Eik to attack the caravan on the Northern Trade Route and to harass the Potola Mountain Kingdom.
