Regional Background: Altura (Northern Goblins)

This region has become more fertile over the last thousand years. But is not nearly as fertile as Apulia and the former Empire regions.

Arraman minor culture in the area, maginalized by the Galeric speakers. Arramani is heavily influenced by Galeric.

[What is the history of the Altura region prior to the goblin arrival]

Redwoods used to be common along the coast but have been deforested. All around the Gubros mountains and foothills have huge numbers of Giant Redwoods.

Algomeda River Valley (Northern Frontier: Small Clans)

Black Magic Clan: [Masobe = magic] list magical treasures carried, special spells known, leaders of organized groups and disorganized packs. Cemented into Clan during the Beta Phase, starts beta phase almost completely a clan.

Caratanana Family [022: Vatomana] (JDM, p. 136, 25, three tier tree): Core of Black Magic clan, warriors have good armor. Magus Cartanana (5/2 magic, bow bonus) with human armor bodyguard, Average Vatomana city warriors (3/1 magic), other families have strong marriage ties to Caratanana family and supply warriors for the clans main warbands (under the Black magic banner, led by Caratanana): Foot (3/4/3) and Cavalry (5/4) with armored warpigs.

Mpananotena Sect: (3/3 magic) with country warriors (3/3/2) (JDM, p. 136, 54, three trees circled). Reputation as insane due to willingness to face the perils of the pass, fairie, huns, etc. Reputed to use hunnish related magic

Black Horde Clan: [Andirany = group] packs vs. formal war parties, list of famous and crafty leaders. Cemented into Clan during the Beta Phase. Many of the families and members well known for pig herding, both war pigs and domestic. Alliance with Igeld.

Selime (City in Manajary): The Patriarch of Selime visited Tsivory and both cured the Emperor and converted him to the ways of the Prophet.

Black Tusk Family: [Kisoa = Pig] Reknown pig raisers and cavalry.

Dark Forest Family: [Fanalofana = Shade] Carried seeds of the Dark Forest through the Exodus and planted it in Altura.

Acorn Family: [Masamboly = Seed] Tends the land well with large pig herds.

Manadio Sect: Opposed to the non-traditional magic of the Black Magic Clan. Allied with Black Horde Clan

Goavana Tribe: [Enormous] Used to be one of the most important clans of pre-Exodus times. After the exodus, still very ambitious and led the drive to the north and accomodation measures with the humans. Lost much position by being too high profile.

Mangana Family: [Bruise] Can make battle wounds that cannot be easily healed.

Mandoro Family: [Burn] Accomplished with fire magics and rituals.

Ra Sect: [Blood] Lives at the edge of Gubros Pass.

Sirota Family/Sect: [??] Family with extensive magical abilities, but poor administration and military power. Used to control most of Androka before the expansion of the Black Tusk from Gela City. The Sirota Sect is home of the Wood Sword School, hosts of a regional tournament and school of several accomplished masters.

Arusio City-State: Independent City-State controlled by the Orinasa [Factory] family. Orinasa family have exceptional alchemical abilities and their potions sell far and wide.

Dragon Clan: [013: Analava] [Bibilava = Snake] Analava region staked during the initial arrival of goblins during the Exodus. Analava was the heroic leader of the Dragon clan who advanced all the way north to the fertile valley of Tusana and the metropolis of Teresti. The faithful there impressed the hero and converted him to the faith, an instrumental act that helped convert most goblins to the faith. The city of Teresti is a key pilgrimage location for all goblin faithful to this day.

Fenirive Tribe[025: Khamsin/Fenirive]:
Warlord Fenerive: (3/1 Magic) Used to be a clan that invaded Apulia, but failed. Male, holds significant tribal power, which reduces tribe's ability to interact with the other (female dominated) clans. Well armed and armored, due to good finances by being aggressive traders. Strongly allied with the goblin clan that conquered Apulia. Benefited significantly by the goods from the trade route, received bonuses from the goblin Emperor. Since the arrival of King Eik, this clan has lost a lot of prestige and is in decline. Revenge and pressure from Melbin have made the situation worse. Melbin may make a play to recover Khamsin (theirs before the goblins arrived). Forces in the city of Khamsin/Fenirive are classic warriors (spear/bowmen), supported by Mitsaoka sect. Forces located in the forts across the area are just classic warriors.

Miray Family: [United] Dominat family of clan. Current grandmother united the five factions into one clan

Black Line Sect, Mikitoantoana Monastic Sect: [Mikitoantoana = rough] Strong militant tradition, exclude humans as members or followers. Clan members get food from the families in the clan.

Fahafatesana Family [Death] Quite good at fortification construction and interaction with Fairie. They have a created nexus they use for travel.

Founding ancestor is male: Nasolo Miaro, bearer of the War Fan, protector of those escaping oppression. Tribe order kept through dictatorial cultism with very strict rules.

Tricky Penaga Gang (Ronin): [Mailaka = clever] (JDM, p. 205, 52, eating bird) Fort and 3 sub-gangs. Leaders Tsinge, Lucino (human), Vicious Vohine. Income based on frequent raids to human settlements. Allied with Ogre sumo school.

Ogre Sumo School: [Mihoatra = exceed] In mountains, near Minotaurs. Use Mauls and strong hide armor (made of wierd beast skin). Ogres are bloodlusted and enlarged hobgoblins. Ritual of Rebirth (troll-like rebirth process) INT and POW both -2, STR +1d6+7, SIZ +1d6+3, CON +2.

Grey Heron Sect: [Vanokasira = grey heron] Live in the tri-mountain valley. Not related to the Heron Sect of the Four Ring Clan.

Towering Golden Group: [Mazana = hard] Spirit magic only with Siz Enhance Ritual (1 pow = 2 siz). They have little armor (because they are poor and many). They use Protection spells a lot. They can fade in and out of Fairie. They have an extremely dangerous reputation. They will send an emmissary to negotiate threats to their food supply and magical income.

Kanosa Gang, Set of Maolo the Furtive (Ronin): [Kanosa = nervous] Bandit gang of disreputable ronin.

Mazoto Monastic Sect: [Mazoto = zealous] Mountain warrior monks. Naginata, very motivated, spiritually focused, magical ability to self heal with one round of no action (each personal MP=HP healed). Zen monks, will not share, recently militarized, meditate and follow local mountain spirit, many apprentices freeze to death on the mountains, fatalistic outlook (Mishima), can brew MP restore potions, but all are tithed to headquarters. Will pay good money or other for MP potions ingredients. Boon to one player with MP ingredients.

Nunnery of Saint Lucia, Mahery Sect: [Mahery = heroic] Group of human sorcerer nuns who follow same path of monkhood as the Mazoto Monastic Sect. About a hundred years ago a female ex-gladiator who entered the monastary and bested the five Grandmasters and joined the sect. For the first ten years, and she learned everything and became Grandmaster herself (the fastest ever.) But as Grandmaster she became distruptive and was sent away. She formed her own nunnery, mainly attracting the militant noble daughters of the coastal clans, where naginatas are cultural weapons for women. Because they are separate, the nuns do not tithe MP Restore potion ingredients to the main temple. Her two daughters still lead the nunnery, Sophia the Abbess and Ana the Grandmaster.
