Local Religions and Religious Groups
Blackguard Brotherhood (evil alignment): Blackguard Brotherhood of the Unholy Tome Fortress. Their local goal is to prevent increase in influence by those of good alignment. Although the Brotherhood wishes the trade route to open up, they will annoy and thwart questing palidans passing through the Barony. Most members are also members of the Sephia temple.
Nelli: (good) domains = Good, Knowledge, Protection. Local goddess of travellers. Once much larger and extending to the East along the trade route, this religion diminished after the invasion of the inhuman hordes and the severing of the trade route. Now Nelli is allied with the other good gods in order to oppose the evil inhuman hordes. Questing paladins of many good gods travel to the area under the protection of Nelli to battle these evil hordes. The local White Knights guide the foreign questors.
Rhaga: (neutral) domains = Destruction, Fire, Strength. Local god of vulcanism and volcanoes around the Black Sea. The mountains around the Black Sea are still active volcanically and Rhaga has many temples and followers hoping to benefit from the divination of the god. Wandering clerics of Rhaga help the downtrodden and continue to maintain the positive image of the god. Used to have the Earth domain and the various temples still have earth magic-related items. The earth power was lost in a divine conflict between Rhaga and the many spirits of the land. Rhaga lost this battle and still resents these local spirits. Clerics of Rhaga actively oppose druids and local druidic organizations.
Sephia: (Evil) domains = Death, Evil, Magic. Local goddess, originally of Thuggery, but now of a regional secret society promoting a more sophisticated ever expanding sphere of evil. Sephia originally gained power by preying on the trade on the trade route to the East as the religion of the Thugees. As the Thugee organization declined because of the efforts of the goddess Nelli, Sephia still expanded by turning on the Thugees and being much more sophisticated in their spreading of influence and evil.
The Sephia temple in Persea is the largest of the religion and is known as the Twin Basalt Towers, and it led by Archbishop Torqemada. Sephia is the greatest religion in the Barony and surrounding area, with tens of thousands of worshippers.
White Knights: Secret society of Paladins and lawful good Rangers questing to do good and rid the world of evil. Closely associated with the goddess Nelli.
